I ask the doc how strong are my bones and should I take calcium. He's in such a hurry he never answers but says my femur is still strong enough to hold me up. Was that a joke? I don't know what the heck a femur is.

I don't know if your doctor was joking but I can tell you the femur is one of the largest bones in your body. It's the long bone in your thigh. It attaches to your hip at the proximal end and to your knee at the distal end. (this is just the terminology used to identify the joining of the bones in the body) If there was a serious weakening of your bones in general, he would have talked more about it and suggested treatment. (doctors are all in such a hurry these days they don't take time to give simple explanations) Simply stated - if you're talking to a friend it's your thigh bone, if you're answering a question on the quiz show Jeopardy, it's your femur.
